that's because nancy pelosi announced she's staying on as house democratic leader for another two years. that means hoyer, who is 73 years old and would have moved up to replace her as democratic leader, is stuck in the number two slot. again. this has been happening for years. decades, really. the pelosi/highwoyer rivalry ha been intense, unexpected turns and goes back a half century when they were interns together. the one common thread is this, no matter what happens pelosi always seems to end up on top. it really all started in 1998 when they began angling for a spot in the democratic leadership. their campaign was contingent on democrats taking back the majority, which didn't happen in '98 so the campaign was off. they picked it up in the run-up to the 2000 campaign but democrats fell short so there was never a vote. it was starting to get heat. lines were drawn. pelosi was the choice of liberals, hoyer favorite of new business democrats. in 2001 there was an opening for whip, number two spot. the campaign got ugly. vote was called, pelosi won it. a year later dick gephardt stepped

. >> speaking of the liberal wing of the democratic party, what are you hearing about nancy pelosi's future? >>. she's being mum on that right now. she said tomorrow morning by 10:00 a.m., we'll all know her decision. some of that may leak out beforehand. but right now, she's gauging whether or not she has the political support to keep the control of her spot atop the democratic leadership. she's not saying one way or the other she will stand on board or the democrat from maryland, her number two would assume as the top democratic leader. >> i know the election was a long time ago, but i just wanted to refresh everyone's memories a little bit about what we were talking about in the election. >> i need to know that they should focus on creating jobs and growing the economy. >> we have a jobs crisis. >> we're going to create one million new manufacturing jobs. we're going to train two million workers. >> the answer isn't government. the answer is more good jobs. >> what happened to jobs? when are we going to talk about jobs? >> it's really funny because during the campaign trail, both

. >> i think i saw john boehner and nancy pelosi sharing a rootbeer float out of the same straw at johnny half shell. it's the dawn of a new era. i'm positive about it. >> a lot of important things happened this week. i wasn't totally shocked by any of them, even though the pets russ scandal was a bit surprising. the thing that shocked me the most was, i went to see "lincoln" and it sucked, it was terrible. it wasn't really about the soul of the country as i was led to believe it was going to be, and daniel day-lewis is incredible, he will be in the best actor oscar race but the film -- i want those 2 1/2 hours back. >> toure, we did like another movie though. >> "argo." >> i saw it. >> three thumbs up from "the cycle crew cycle" crew, krystal hasn't seen it yet. >> we were concerned that after the election we would have nothing to talk about, and that's not been a problem. i mean, even on oyour crazy lon list, romney thrusting himself back into the spotlight, even boehner and obama shared a light-hearted tomorrow. >> tomorrow is speaker boehner's birthday. for those who want to wish him
